Guest Talk by Dr.Shivanand Kanavi Adjunct Faculty Member NIAS Title: Indian Contribution to Digital Technology Abstract: It is not commonly known that Indians have done major contributions to the growth of Semiconductors Microelectronics Lasers Fibre Optics Telecom Computing and the Internet. The talk will also give a few concrete examples of contributions of Indian Scientists and Technologists. Speakers Bio: Dr.Shivanand Kanavi is currently an Adjunct Faculty Member at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) Bengaluru and Consulting Editor of Indias premier Business Magazine Business India and writes frequently in Business India Rediff.com and Prajavani (Kannada). He was trained as a theoretical physicist at IIT Kanpur Northeastern University Boston and IIT Bombay. After a academic career in India and USA he turned to Business Journalism. He was awarded the Madhu Valluri Award for IT Journalism for the year 2004. He was Global Head Marketing and Strategic Communication at CMC Ltd until 2013. His book Sand to Silicon: The amazing story of digital technology published in 2006 book chronicled contributions of Indians in the fields of digital technologies and also outlined the impact of digital technology on quality of life for millions of Indians.
