Dr. Chandrashekar Ramanathan is Professor and Dean (Academics) at International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB). He has been associated with IIITB for over 11 years where he has been teaching and carrying out research in the field of computing and information technology. He received his Ph.D. degree from Mississippi State University, USA. His thesis was in the area of object-oriented databases. He moved to academia after spending more than a decade in the software industry as a designer, project manager and master software architect. He has extensive application software development experience in large multinational organizations. His teaching interests are in the areas of data modeling, data analytics, database design, and software architecture. His current research focus is in the areas of data science and Technology for Education. Model-based software engineering and enterprise content management are his other areas of interest. He has authored several research papers and supervised many Masters thesis work. Four PhD students have graduated from IIITB under his guidance until now. He is passionate about the use of technology for improving the quality of education. He serves on the Technical Advisory Panels of many departments of the Government of Karnataka including the Department of Education, Finance, and Center for Smart Governance. He also serves as a subject-matter expert on the Board of Studies of educational institutions such as Pondicherry University and Thiagarajar College of Engineering. Dr. Chandrashekar is a Board member in the “Board for IT Education Standards (BITES)”. He was recognized in the list of “Top 10 academicians in Data Science” by the Analytics India magazine for the year 2018 and again for the year 2019.
