From the Director's Desk:

February 2016 was special in more ways than one; starting with 2016 being a leap year. The historic announcement of gravitational waves by a group of scientists is the biggest discovery of this century so far – this was predicted by Albert Einstein almost a century ago. It is heartening to note the extent of contributions several scientists from India, including some from Bangalore, have made towards this landmark discovery.

Mid-term exams kept the students busy. Following the examinations, there was week-long midterm break from routine academic time-table. The students are gearing up for Spandan 2016, which has been traditionally held in the end of the midterm break.

Infosys Foundation has agreed to fund INR 24 Crores for our new academic block, to house additional classrooms and laboratories -- this grant has come right on time, when the Institute has been feeling the need for infrastructural expansion, with the increased strength in faculty and students. We are grateful to Infosys Foundation for the same. The Institute is making hectic efforts to start the construction by April 2016 so that the block will be ready to receive the new batch of students on August 1, 2017.

Events

  • IIITB Alumni Day 2016 was on February 7. Reliving the memories of the past and letting the feel of nostalgia grow, IIITB's alumni had great fun on February 7, while showing off their favourite spots within the college campus to their family members. The event was attended by more than 130 alumni along with their family making the event a huge success.  The Main Classroom (MCR), which was the primary venue of the event, was jam-packed throughout the indoor sessions. The professors of IIITB stole the show with their unbeatable wits and humour while the post-lunch session of 'startup stories of IIITB entrepreneurs' was yet another most appreciated session. Student volunteers supported the “kid-zone” for the event, where the small children of the alumni, who came along with their parents, were attended to. The event went on in the evening, when the alumni interacted with current students. The day proved to be a good networking event for the alumni and current students.
