ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Broadcom, India conducted an IoT hackathon at IIITB in February 2015. The students used Broadcom’s WICED kits to implement their ideas. Winners of the hackathon were announced on October 1st by Mr. Rajiv Kapur (M.D., Broadcom) and Prof. S. Sadagopan.  Winners were announced in two categories: concept (cash prize of INR 25000) and prototype implementation (cash prize of INR 1,00,000).
    Project Name: Driver-IQ (Concept)
Abstract:-“Driver-IQ” system uses Broadcom WICED Sense kit for analyzing driving skills of a person on the basis of events like erratic braking, sharp turns, swerving etc. The system alerts the driver in case of severe events like sudden acceleration, sharp turns etc. and hence reduces possibility of accidents. At the end of ride, a performance report is generated which is useful in improve driving skills.
Team: Mayank Surana (MT2014064), Pooja Venkatesh (MS2014004), Rishabh Bordia (MT2014512), Sonali Gupta (MT2014514), Mahesh Zanwar (MS2014002)
Project name: CrowdCom - Crowd sourcing based road pits detection (Prototype)
Abstract: The main step in making the roads free from pits and potholes is to first locate them. CrowdCom is proposing a crowd sourcing based method of pits detection so that authorities can simply jump start to fixing the roads. The idea is to use the mobile phones of people to improve their own streets and roads. Cars will be attached with ‘WICED Sense’ at a suitable location. As the people drive the cars, they can switch on a mobile app in their mobiles. The accelerometer and gyroscope data of WICED sense is sent to the mobile app using Bluetooth LE. The app collects this data and detects pits/pot holes and tags the data with their locations (using the inbuilt GPS of the mobile). The user can then choose to upload that data to a central server.
