The Human Touch

The article is a follow-up to the last article on “How digitization can drive growth in India” and delves deeply into:

(i) Lack of user-friendliness of e-government services which is creating a digital divide
(ii) Evolution of a new set of tech intermediaries to solve the problem of hapless citizens 
(iii) Need for software engineers to think beyond technology when designing digital government services

With examples drawn from programmes such as the Symbolic Systems Program at Stanford University, it is prescribed that our technical institutes shall train engineers who can blend the technical fluency with humanities and social sciences so that they can create digital artefacts and systems that are inclusive for all demographics, gender, age, economic and social strata of the society.
