IIIT-B Incubation Centre

The Incubation activities at IIITB are carried out through a sec 25 company named IIITB Innovation Centre which was incorporated on 30th March 2009.

An incubation policy of the Institute encourages proposals from both within and outside of IIITB.

First priority will be accorded to proposals based on the work already carried out at the institute, which has a commercial potential. The faculty and students who have worked on the concept will be encouraged to establish an enterprise.

Second priority is to support ideas that have commercial potential, but so far have not been researched at the institute, provided faculty and students of the institute are willing to partner with the promoter of the idea and establish an enterprise.

The Centre will support ideas which has a clear exit rules and exit must happen within three to five years

In a few cases the Centre may provide seed capital assistance.
Incubation Activities

The Centre currently supports seven companies.

Smart Light for Green Car: attempts at creation of a new technology for automotive headlight which will have lower glare and lower power (Green) consumption coupled with higher range and will have fully programmable beam management. The current power consumption is about 50 watts and the beam length is about 100 meters ( on high beam). The idea is to lower the power consumption, reduce glare significantly and to increase beam length to about 200 meters.

Promedik: is a Healthcare Information Product Company dedicated to bring research backed knowledge for physicians and hospitals to deliver best practices in patient care, innovative marketing and research solutions for healthcare companies like pharmaceutical, medical device, pharmacy and healthcare insurance companies. Promedik will help

Doctors to practice evidence based medicine by enhancing clinical knowledge through efficient knowledge tools created by expert guidance and peer discussion.

Hospitals and other medical institutions to create a standard of care for its patients

Pharmaceutical companies in reaching out to doctors with innovative medical publishing and effective marketing solutions
Promedik publishes evidence backed information in form of Decision Support Tools (DST) for diagnosis and post diagnostic care in form of Care Path (CP). CP is an illustrative decision support system, an end to end life cycle of a disease in a flowchart format, which provides research reference at decision points during patient care in a post diagnosis environment. This equips physician with best practices in line with latest published evidence at the minimum effort resulting in highest value for time invested.
These two Companies have received seed capital assistance.

Kollabia: a company set up by students , to develop and provide collaborative music platform.
Entrepreneurial Education

Along with NEN IIITB Innovation Centre organised a three day workshop for potential entrepreneurs in July 2009.
Co-operation with Venture Funds

IIITB Innovation Centre has entered in to an MOU with i2India to facilitate industry academia interaction and technology commercialisations. The units incubated at IIITB Innovation Centre can access the funds available with i2India.
